Scott County board sets preliminary tax levy
The Scott County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution at their September 13 meeting establishing the maximum proposed levy of $47.4 million. With approximately $3.4 million in certified property tax aids, the net levy for the purpose of preparing 2006 property tax statements is slightly more than $44 million.
This preliminary levy represents a 10.4 percent increase (6.3 percent for operating expenses; 1.3 percent to accommodate the County’s strategic initiatives; 0.5 percent for the Capital Improvement Program; 2.3 percent earmarked for infrastructure) to support the County’s vision and mission. Additional discussion with department managers, County Administration, and the County Board will further refine the budget prior to setting the actual levy, which may not increase above the adopted maximum proposed levy.
