Scott County Farm Task Force holds first meeting

Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

The Scott County Farm Task Force held its first meeting Thursday morning, July 30, at the Scott County Extension Office near Jordan.

The task force was formed following completion of the Scott County 2030 Comprehensive Plan in response to complaints that the plan was focused too much on development and not enough on preserving prime agricultural land.

According to Brad Davis, Scott County Planning Manager, the task force is charged with providing input into the county's long range comprehensive planning and implementation efforts, help county decision makers to find solutions, approaches and strategies for maintaining long-term farming in county, providing a forum and a voice for the farming community and assisting the University of Minnesota Extension Office on farm-related programming.

Davis said during the nearly three-year comprehensive planning process, which was completed earlier this year, there was a push from the agricultural community to study the future of what farming should look like in the county. It was decided to form a focus on that issue
