Scott County, Mdewakonton mobile health clinic sets December visits

The Minnesota Department of Health estimates that there are approximately 8,540 individuals who are uninsured in Scott County. In addition, only 68 percent of Scott County children on public health care programs access preventative health care. This has resulted in some families and individuals not receiving needed health or dental care; or using hospital emergency services for ailments that could be addressed in a clinic setting.

Scott County Public Health identified a need for services that are more easily accessible to individuals and families who are uninsured, underinsured and underserved. Through a partnership with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, Scott County Public Health has started to provide adult and child health screening, preventative health care, health information, and assistance with connecting to ongoing health care and other local resources.

The services are provided with the use of the mobile health clinic owned by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. This partnership enables services to be brought directly to those in need by having the clinic go to various locations within Scott County. In addition to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Target in Savage, and the Shakopee Lions Club have been generous in their support of this project by providing the much needed medical supplies and equipment Public Health staff use during the clinics.
