Scott County will consider drug cleanup ordinance
The Scott County Board will hold a public hearing on a proposed ordinance governing the cleanup of clandestine drug lab sites used to produce illegal drugs—usually methamphetamines—that are found within the county.
The Methamphetamine Task Force, consisting of representatives of the county attorney’s office, human services, community development, the sheriff’s office, county administration, and the cities within Scott County, drafted the ordinance. The hearing will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. At the hearing, the board will accept public feedback and consider adoption of the ordinance.
In other matters:
• The Board approved funding to the City of Shakopee in the amount of $25,000 from the Governor’s Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment (SCORE) funds to purchase additional recycling bins. The city has demonstrated a commitment to conform to Scott County’s Solid Waste Master Plan (approved by the County Board and the Minnesota Department of Environmental Assistance (MOEA) on May 10, 2005 by arranging to have waste collected from Shakopee processed for energy recovery rather than landfilled. The funds are from the MOEA provided to all counties through the SCORE grants which are generated by the state from fees on solid waste collection.
• Lill Farrar, a 31-year employee of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management, was recognized on the occasion of her retirement at the November 29 meeting of the Scott County Board.
