Seurer to retire as city’s Public Works Director

New Prague Public Works Director Dennis Seurer announced Monday, Aug. 13, that will be retiring. Seurer turned in his letter of retire- ment to both the New Prague Utilities Commission and City Administrator Mike Johnson. Seurer’s retirement is effective October 31, 2012.

Seurer explained that he qualifies for the rule of 90, which offers full retirement benefits to an employee’s whose age and years of ser-

vice adds up to 90. When he retires Seurer will have served New Prague for 34 years and nine months.

"I have the ability to do this (retire) and I’ ve been in this for a lot of years,” he said. “It’s time to turn it over to someone else."

He hopes his replacement

will be chosen by a mutual decision of the utilities com- mission and the New Prague City Council.

Johnson said Seurer’s deci- sion to retire was a surprise. The city will now have to begin identifying what it needs to do to replace Seurer and lay out the process.
