Seven Titans recognized by MN River Conference

The Titan football squad of Tri-City United High School had a great year on the gridirons during the 2013 season, finishing as a co-champion of the Minnesota River Conference before losing to Cannon Falls in the playoffs, and seven of the players have been recognized for their part in that success.
Pat Lloyd, Joe Rynda, John Christian, Josh Selly and Aaron Dwyer received all-conference honors, while Charley Simonette and Alex Burns were given honorable mention.
Pat Lloyd, senior, RB/LB, son of Tim and Laurie Lloyd, was a team captain and very versatile player for the Titans. On offense, he played running back (500 yards, 7 TDs), wide receiver (197 yards), and backup quarterback. On defense, he played linebacker/defensive back, with 45 tackles and 5 interceptions. On special teams, he returned punts and kickoffs, was long snapper for punts and field goals, and was on the kickoff team. Pat also plays basketball and baseball.
Joe Rynda, senior, OG/DE, son of Rich and Ann Rynda. Team captain and a very tough physical player on the offensive and defensive lines. The team often ran behind his blocks. He moved from defensive tackle in 2012 to defensive end in 2013, where he had 40 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss. Joe also plays baseball.
John Christian, senior, RB/LB, son of Doug and Diane Christian. He led the team in rushing yards (700) and touchdowns (14). He was a hard-nosed runner with very good speed and the ability to make tacklers miss. He had 30 tackles from his linebacker position on defense. John also runs track.
Josh Selly, senior, WR/LB, son of Jerry and Ann Selly. He led the Titans in tackles from his linebacker spot on defense, with 64 total tackles, including 10 for loss, and 6 quarterback sacks. Josh really had a nose for the football, as he had three fumble recoveries and three interceptions. He also had four receptions as a backup wide receiver. He was the kicker on the kickoff team, and led the team with 11 tackles on kickoffs. Josh is also a wrestler for TCU.
Aaron Dwyer, senior, WR/S/Punter, is the son of Tom and Deb Dwyer. He led the team in receptions (23), receiving yards (357) and receiving touchdowns (4). He had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. He averaged 34 yards on 23 punts, with nine being returned for a total of only 38 yards. Aaron also plays basketball and baseball.
Charley Simonette, junior, TE/DE, son of Thomas and Jennifer Simonette.
Alex Burns, sophomore, DT, son of Tammy Garza.
The Titan’s Joe Rynda was also named MRC Offensive Lineman of the Year, and Titan coach Ken Helland, along with Justin Johnston of Belle Plaine HS and Craig Johnson of Watertown-Mayer HS were named MRC Coaches of the Year.
Tri-City United, Belle Plaine and Watertown-Mayer were all tied for the conference championship this year.
