Sheriff issues “No Wake Zone” for lakes
Le Sueur County Sheriff David Tietz is issuing “No Wake Zone’s” for the majority of the southern Le Sueur County lakes on Thursday, Sept. 22.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources defines no wake as the “slowest possible speed to maintain steerage, but no greater than 5 mph.”
Tietz issued a No Wake Zone Advisory for lakes in Le Sueur County south of Hwy 99, including Lake Francis, Lake Tetonka, Lake Sakatah, West Jefferson, Middle Jefferson, East Jefferson, Lake German, Lake Gorman, Lake Volney, Lake Emily, Sunfish Lake, Rays Lake and Lake Henry because of the unusually high water levels due to the recent heavy rainfall. (Lake Washington is excluded)
"Many docks are underwater along with floating debris which causes safety concerns with boats traveling at increased speeds," Tietz stated in the a news release.
