Sheriff reports lake property break-ins
Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office reports several thefts from unlocked vehicles on various Subdivisions on Lake Washington and Lake Jefferson.
According to Sheriff Tom Doherty, although some arrests have been made and property has been recovered, the vehicle thefts continue, which obviously indicates additional groups of people are acting in these thefts.
Doherty believes the thefts occur in the late night and early morning hours.
"Individuals are going through vehicles that are found open and taking anything of value to include change, wallets, cameras, GPS devices, computers and guns," he said. "Please keep in mind that this is not limited to Lake Additions. This type of activity has been an ongoing problem within communities as well."
Doherty asks people to remove all valuables from their vehicles and secure them in their homes.
"Lock your cars, garage and house. Watch for any activity that would raise suspicion, if you see something that does not look right please call your local police department or the Sheriff’s Officer to report this activity," he said. "Again, we are asking for your help to be our eyes and ears out there for us."
