Six games played on cool, sunny opener

The Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league began its 2005 season with a full slate of games on a cool but sunny afternoon last Sunday.

Shakopee’s Coyotes, Union Hill, Prior Lake Mudcats, St. Patrick, Lonsdale and St. Benedict were the opening game winners.

Sunday’s results:

Shakopee 11, Veseli 7

The Coyotes rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 7-7 tie and defeated the visiting Veseli Warriors at Joe Schleper Field, 11-7.

Consecutive singles by Jeremy LaTour, Adam Hoffman and Noah Hoffman got the go-ahead run. An infield error allowed two more runs, two walks followed and Corey Fonder hit a sacrifice fly to left for the final run.

At the game’s start, Veseli put three on the board in the first inning with Neil Fischer’s double driving in two runs.

Shakopee came back with six runs in the second as Adam Hoffman, Noah Hoffman and Nick LaTour each hit run-scoring doubles.

But the Warriors chipped away at the Coyote lead with single runs in four consecutive innings and had a 7-7 deadlock going into the bottom of the eighth.

Dan Novak of the Warriors had the only other extra-base hit, a sixth-inning double.
