Small Wonders serves second generation

Small Wonders is now in its 34th year and is enjoying having a number of two generation families, where both the parents and children attended the preschool in New Prague.

Second generation families include Amy (Nickolay) Lemke with children Olivia, Gloria, Owen and Sylvia; Jeremy O'Donoghue with son Sebastian; Tracy (Brod) Prochaska with Cameron and Ben; Jim and Mora (Cervenka) Cavanaugh with children James and Lydia, and Mike and Caroline (Cervenka) Lexa with children Inga and Vlad.

The Cervenka family has a special connection with the school as Mora and Caroline's mother, Paulette Cervenka, was involved with starting the program in 1977. Also, when Mora attended the first class, she drew the picture that is the school's current logo.

Over the years, teachers Carol Frykman and Mary Laban have had many families where both the parent and child were educated at Small Wonders. As parents, many former students wanted the same positive and enriching opportunities for their own children that they remember fondly from their own childhood. Small Wonders is a parent cooperative preschool that emphasizes education through social and physical development, building self esteem in a warm environment, creative learning and science with hands-on experiences, readiness skills for kindergarten and assisting parents in understanding their preschooler.

Small Wonders will be hosting its annual concert and carnival fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 4, at the New Prague Middle School. The concert is at 6:15 p.m. and the carnival begins at 6:30 p.m. and is in the middle school's gym.
