Softball team splits to stay at .500

New Prague kept its record at .500 by splitting a pair of Missota Conference softball games last week. The Trojans lost 3-1 to Northfield, then came back to defeat Farmington in a makeup game.

New Prague was scheduled to play at Shakopee on Wednesday. The girls will host Hutchinson on Thursday and on Monday, April 30, travel to Red Wing for a doubleheader. They host Holy Angels on Wednesday, May 2.

Raiders 3, Trojans 1

This game was much closer than when the two teams had met three days earlier in Mankato. The first game resulted in a 16-1 win for the Raiders. This time, the Trojans kept it close, dropping a 3-1 decision.

New Prague got its only run in the seventh inning. With one out, Jenny Olson doubled and scored on a two-out double by Brittany Ellanson.

New Prague had just five hits off of the Raiders, with Jess Hoffman getting two hits, and Olson, Ellanson and Katie Trewartha getting one each. New Prague's pitching and defense kept things close. Anissa Svoboda started for the Trojans and after giving up three unearned runs in the first inning, she and reliever Alex Wagner shut down the Raiders the rest of the way.

Svoboda went three innings and allowed three runs, none earned, while the Raiders had three hits. She struck out one and walked four. Wagner went three innings and gave up no runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one.

Trojans 5, Tigers 4

New Prague came back from a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 win over Farmington.

Jenna Kilpatrick got things started with a leadoff walk and Ellanson singled. Svoboda singled to bring in a run and Hoffman followed with a walk to load the bases. With one out, Kacy Ambroz had a base hit to bring in a run. Trewartha brought in a run with a fielder's choice, and Bre Hrabe's base hit scored another run. The final run scored on a wild pitch.

New Prague had six hits, but used them wisely. Hrabe had two hits while Svoboda, Ambroz, Kilpatrick and Ellanson had one each.

Wagner was the starting pitcher and gave up four runs, three earned. Svoboda came on in the fourth and got the win in relief.
