Softball team sweeps Stars, Hawks

The New Prague Trojan girls softball team played nine games in seven days as the weather took a turn last week.

The Trojans (7-6, 4-2 Missota) swept doubleheaders with Holy Angels and Chaska, and lost to Shakopee. They also went 1-2 at the Mankato West Tournament, placing fourth. After hosting a doubleheader with Red Wing Tuesday, New Prague has just four more games remaining. They will be in a doubleheader at Northfield Thursday, May 16, and will host Chanhassen for two games on Tuesday, May 21.

New Prague begins playing the Section 2AAA tournament Thursday, May 23. Seeding will be announced over the weekend.

Vs. Holy Angels New Prague took two games from Holy Angels on Tuesday, May 7, winning 15- 4 and 8-0.

In the 8-0 game, the Trojans Ashley Hoffman, Yvette Hansen and Taylor Koehen had two hits each. Nichole Reed went five innings and allowed just three hits while striking out eight.

Vs. Chaska The Trojans won a pair of close games against Chaska, by scores of 4-2 and 4-3.

In game 1, McFarland went 3-for-4 and Ali Jo Hoffman was 2-for-4. Reed struck out 14 batters in seven innings while allowing only two runs.

In game 2, Reed pitched seven innings allowing three hits and striking out seven. Maddie Giesen and Kelsey McFarland each had two hits. Hansen homered for the Trojans.

Mankato Tournament The Trojans defeated Rochester Lourdes in the opener, 6-2 they lost to Lakeville North 10-3 and Chanhassen 2-1.

North went on to win the tournament.

At Shakopee New Prague came out on the short end of two good games,  Coach Nat Wagner said. The Trojans lost the first game 3-2 in eight innings, then lost 10-4 in the second game, with Shakopee pulling away at the end. No other information was available for the games.
