Sonshine Preschool begins its 8th year

Sonshine Christian Preschool, a fully licensed school and ministry of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, opens its doors for the eighth year on Monday Sept. 12.

This year new Orientation Class Sessions for students are scheduled for September 7-9. Letters with specific dates and times have been sent to registered families. This one-hour session gives an introduction to the average day at Sonshine and allows parents and students an opportunity to get to know classroom daily routine.

Marilyn Breimhorst and Lisa Transburg return as lead teachers. Also returning are assistants Tammy Geyer, Stacy Kiihn, Kathleen Schaefer and Vicki Riley.

Additional support staff for the classrooms will be added this year. This person helps with all the busy activities and cleanup assistance needed by the students. Mari Jean Storlie remains as Sonshine Program Director.

Sonshine is also fortunate to have the support of the pastors and staff at Holy Trinity Lutheran, especially for Christmas and year-end programs.

Sonshine believes that children learn important social skills as they play and interact with one another and their teachers. They have opportunity to create wonderful art projects, share their favorite toys and treasures and make new friends each session.

Age appropriate pre-writing, reading and math skills are introduced in the classes. Bible stories and Christian values are structured throughout the curriculum for the school year.

Field trip opportunities, including this year’s planned trip to the Children’s Theatre and special guest visitors add to the child’s classroom experience. Parent volunteers are always welcome in the classroom and for take home projects.

Class options are available for the three-day pre-kindergarten sections in the morning or afternoon. There are two-day programs offered for 3- and 4-year-olds in the morning and 4- and 5-year-olds in the morning and afternoon. A one day class is available for 3-year-olds. Call the church office for specific class section days and availability. Spots are available in a variety of classes for this school year.

Sonshine will be hosting a Meet Your Teacher Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 5-7 p.m. in the classrooms and Fellowship Hall at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Newly-registered families are encouraged to attend from 5-5:45 and returning families from 6 to 6:45. The public is welcome.
