Spikers go the distance; split two matches

After a rough start to the season, the New Prague Trojan volleyball team picked a good time to earn its first win of the season, as they defeated Holy Angels in five games in their Missota Conference opener. Earlier in the week the Trojans lost a five-game match to Rosemount.

The Trojans will travel to Northfield Thursday, Sept. 15. On Saturday, Sept. 17, they compete in the 16-team Farmington Invitational. They return to action with a pair of home matches next week, against Mankato West Tuesday, Sept. 20, and Chaska Thursday, Sept. 22.

New Prague came up short Tuesday, Sept. 6, in a five-game contest, losing to Rosemount 25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-6.

The Trojans were led offensively by Sydney Foss and Marissa Ekness with 12 kills each and Lexi Ruehling with 8. Amber Hoffman had 4 ace serves and Ruehling 3. Emma Hughes had 33 assists.

Defensively the Trojans were led by Stephie Busch with 10 digs and Mel Clausen with 4 blocks.

Sydney and Marissa continue to play well on offense
