St. Patrick wins 3 league games

New Market remains atop the Dakota-Rice-Scott League standings with two more wins last week, for an 8-0 record. They have a two-game lead over Faribault, at 4-0, with three teams, St. Patrick, Prior Lake and Shakopee, all at 5-2. St. Patrick picked up three wins in the past week.

Action in the league picks up this week with many teams playing games on both Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day week. 

Tuesday, May 17 Bulldogs 5, Warriors 4 It was a long night at Don Giesen Field, and the fans that could stay up for it got four innings of free baseball between the Bulldogs and Warriors. The Bulldogs hadn’t played a game in nine days and the defense showed some rust. Rick Bell started for Union Hill and worked his tail off for six innings, scattering five hits. The defense didn’t help him out, with six errors and seven total for the game. Bryan Lindner came in and threw really well in relief, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out 11. Union Hill jumped out to a 2- 0 lead after two. Veseli would get one back in the fourth, but Union Hill would answer to lead 3-1. Veseli would then score three in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead, only to have Union Hill answer and tie it up in the seventh. The two teams were tied heading into the bottom of the 13th. Adam Gill walked, would advance to third on an Eric Bisek double and would eventually score the winning run on a passed ball. Bisek went 3-for-4 and Jeff Dietz went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Matt Perkinson threw 10 innings, with Jack Meyer taking the loss in relief.

Wednesday, May 18 Mudcats 13, Mallards 9 Prior Lake defeated Montgomery in a slugfest at Montgomery’s ball park by a 13-9 score. The Mudcats took a 5-0 lead in the second inning, but saw it vanish with a six-run second by the Mallards. Prior Lake regained the lead with four in the third and held on for the win. For Prior Lake, Jonathon Houston, Jake Lehrer, Kyle Schmidt and Jerad Lehrer each had two hits and Houston had four RBIs. Tom Flicek had two hits for the Mallards and Eric Iverson scored three runs, reaching base four times on a double and three walks. Prior Lake’s Ben Morrison started and got the win, going six innings. Topher Rose pitched three innings of relief. Jaron Christensen started and took the loss, with Mike Flicek and Jared Schoesser pitching in relief.

Irish 8, Orioles 7 New Prague led the Irish 3- 0 after two innings and 5-2 after the third, but would let the lead slip away in an 8-7 loss to St. Patrick. Seth Ambroz hit a pair of home runs in the game to spark the Irish attack. Matt Ambroz was 3-for- 5 and AJ Chappuis was 2-for- 5 with two RBIs. For the Orioles, Justin Novak, Aaron Shetka and Eric Wagner each had two hits. The winning pitcher was Danny DeGross, who came in relief and collected his first career win.

Thursday, May 19 Bulldogs 5, Coyotes 0 Union Hill jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a passed ball and an error. They would tack on three in the sixth and one in the eighth for the win. Hunter Piehl went seven strong innings, yielding three hits and striking out nine Coyote batters. Dave Anderson threw the final two frames, striking out three batters. Cody Pamperin started and took the loss for Shakopee. Danny Beckius, Jesse Bastyr, and Nathan Olson each had two hits for Union Hill.

Friday, May 20 Aces 7, Mudcats 6 The Lonsdale Aces needed 10 innings on Friday to take down the Prior Lake Mudcats 7-6 at Lonsdale. With the score tied at six in the 10th inning, Cole Pint came to the plate and singled, plating Justin Scheffler. The game was back-and-forth heading into the 10th, with 10 lead changes. Mike Robohm got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He tossed the last 4-2/3 innings of shutout ball. Robohm struck out eight, walked one and gave up four hits. Jake Lehrer was charged with the loss. He lasted just 2- 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed two runs.

Muskies 15, Warriors 2 New Market scored 15 runs on just nine hits to defeat Veseli 15-2 at Veseli Friday. Andy Henkemeyer, Nate Rost and Harvey Martin all homered for the Muskies in the win. Nate Rost and Nick Rost both had two hits while Martin had three RBIs. For Veseli, Curt Brezina had two hits, including a double. Corey Friedges had an RBI. The Warriors managed just four hits off New Market pitching. Brett Herber pitched seven innings, and allowed just three hits and one run, striking out six. Henkemeyer pitched two innings of relief. Ben Doerr started and took the loss for Veseli, with Blake Radloff and John Solheid pitching in relief.

Saturday, May 21 Irish 12, Sox 0 Bill Dunker scattered six hits and collected seven strikeouts en route to a shutout of the Webster Sox onSaturday. St. Patrick used an eightrun third inning which included four hits, three walks and an error. Augie Isaacson, Matt Ambroz, Mathew Pexa and Derrick Isaacson each had two hits. Kenny Johnson added a pair of RBIs on a double to right.

Sunday, May 22 Irish 11, Warriors 1 St. Patrick scored early and often Sunday at Bonin Field and never looked back. Augie Isaacson was 3-for-5, Josh Simon, who was also the winning pitcher, went 3-for-4. Derek Hahn and Matt Ambroz each had 2 RBIs. Veseli managed only three hits in the ball game, however they collected seven walks from Irish pitchers.

Saints 12, Bulldogs 1 The St. Benedict Saints defeated the Union Hill Bulldogs 12-1 in eight innings on Sunday. Union Hill scored first as Danny Beckius doubled home Bryan Lindner. The Saints scored six times in the fifth inning highlighted by a threerun Cullen Bahn home run. Johnny Dittman led the 16-hit attack with four hits. Scott Eischens added three. Bahn and Derek Karsky had two hits each. Matthias Duevel was the winner, pitching six innings. Rick Bell took the loss. Lindner had two hits for Union Hill.

Coyotes 6, Orioles 0 Tyler Sloss picked up the win over New Prague in a 6-0 game at Shakopee. The Coyotes scored three in the first inning with Alex Johnson singling in two runs and Logan Becker driving in a run with a double. They added to the lead with a leadoff single by Jack Piche, who scored on an infield hit. They added two more in the seventh with Matt Theis and Johnson getting RBIs. Sloss went seven innings, allowing five hits, with Johnson pitching two innings of relief. Becker went 3-for-3 with a double. For New Prague, Dusty Beckius pitched 7-1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and striking out five in taking the loss. Aaron Shetka went 2- for-4.

Lakers 6, Mallards 4 Faribault scored four runs in the fifth to claim a 6-4 win over Montgomery Sunday in Faribault. Matt Lane got the win for the Lakers, while Jared Schloesser was tagged with the loss. Schloesser, Mike Flicek and Johnny Krocak each had two hits for the Mallards. Muskies 11, Aces 1 New Market broke open a close game with six runs in the fourth inning for an 11-1 win at Lonsdale Sunday. Nick Rost had three hits and Andy Henkemeyer had a home run for the Muskies. Henkemeyer and Harrison Ballantyne each had three RBIs. Parker Holmstrom got the win for New Market, while the Aces’ Ben Lazzari took the loss.

Mudcats 23, Sox 3 Prior Lake scored seven runs in three different innings as they hammered the Webster Sox 23-3 Sunday in Webster. The Mudcats scored seven in both the first and second innings and added seven more in the seventh. Webster scored two in the first and one in the third. Jonathon Houston, Cole Bjorge and Topher Rose had three hits each and Justin Hackett, Kyle Schmidt and Ben Morrison each had two. Brad Schoenrock and Morrison hit home runs for Prior Lake. For Webster, Jason Nelson had two hits and Jeremy Wieland and Hunter Kincade each had a double. Isaac Saad got the win for Prior Lake, with Jeremy Wieland taking the loss.
