St. Wenc. Marathon will be 'Under the Big Top'

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

St. Wenceslaus School will gather Under the Big Top for its annual Marathon for Non-Public Education.

The school kicked off the drive that raises funds for the New Prague school on Thursday, Sept. 9, with games and a lot of clowning around.

Staff member Lisa Kaczor provided a lot of fun for students and staff dressed as a clown. The staff played circus-themed games for the enjoyment of the students. Among the activities was tightrope walking. It was more a challenge of coordination then balance, as two teams made up of three teachers each had to walk a line in tandem. Other games included juggling, lion taming and a clown car that had a teacher being pushed in a toy car, gathering pieces of a clown costume and dressing as quickly as possible in the costume.

This year's goal is $45,000 to be raised over the month of September. Each class was being encouraged to help raise funds. The classes had their own personal goals, plus incentives to go over them. Included in the prizes was if a class went $150 beyond its goal would have a special dessert delivered to its classroom, $200 over would result in a movie for the class complete with popcorn.

The school's marathon will be held Saturday, Oct. 2. Staff, students and their families will walk around the school grounds for one hour. Past marathons have included service projects, cleaning up New Prague's parks, the school grounds and St. Wenceslaus Church.
