St. Wenceslaus Festival is Sunday
Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer
Parishioners at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church have been busy preparing for the annual parish festival, to be held Sunday, Aug. 13, on the church's grounds.
Three Polka Masses will be held; at the 5 p.m. Saturday Mass, and the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses. The event will offer many activities, including a grilled chicken dinner and drawings totaling $2,000.
Sunday's chicken dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with dining in the Parish Activity Center. Takeout dinners will also be available. The dinner comes with all the fixings, including dessert. Last year's dinner required the preparation of 1,884 chicken halves. A new cole slaw recipe is being tried this year.
A beef bar will also be featured from noon to 6 p.m. along with other refreshments throughout the day.
The festival offers plenty of other activities including games for children and families. A bingo tent will be located between the church and St. Wenceslaus School. Also on the grounds will be a Country Store, with many items made or donated by parishioners. There will be homemade baked goods available for purchase. At 6 p.m., there will be drawings for the cash prizes and items from the Country Store.
Music throughout the day will feature the St. Wenceslaus Music Group, the New Prague Concertina Club, the Czech Singers, the MSMS Violin & Fiddle Group and DJ Jerry Plambeck.
