Stern and others ‘Do Something’ for others

For Jason Stern, a member of the Elko New Market City Council, one of his favorite songs is "Do Something" by Matthew West. He explained, "As a Christian it calls us to be the hands and feet of Jesus." In January, he and others did something as in 36 hours they donated 152 coats and raised more than $3,000 for charity.

Stern, who works for the Minnesota Wild, had taken January 15 off of work. His wife was out of town in Utah for her Doterra Essential oils conference. "I wanted to ‘do something’ special with my oldest daughter, Gianna, (age 4) that was impactful," he said.

Stern and Gianna went to a local Costco and saw they had winter jackets on sale for $20. "We bought five to donate to a charity," he said. That night Stern went home and posted on Facebook their idea of donating the coats. One by one the donations started to come in from friends, colleagues, family members, and friends of friends that are now new friends. "It was beautiful," said Stern.
