Street project on schedule

New Prague’s 2013 street project is proceeding on schedule, with crews pouring concrete curb and gutter early this week, in hopes of beginning laying asphalt by the end of the week.

Chard Tiling and Excavation, general contractor for the project, had crews laying aggregate base on Central Ave. N from First Street to Main Street last week. There was some worry that the four inches of rain that fell early Saturday morning might have caused problems for the project, but City Administrator Mike Johnson said there was no significant damage.

Earleir this week, crews began paving the first lift on the street approaches to the north of city hall.

The curb and gutter proved to be more of a challenge than anticipated, Johnson said, because of the hot weather.

“The concrete is drying a little quicker than they’d like, making it difficult to work with, but overall things are going well,” he said.

Crews have also started doing pipe work on First Street NE, from Central Ave. N to First Ave. NE
