St.Wenc. Festival rebounds after the rain

Even a downpour on Sunday, Aug. 13, couldn’t stop the fun at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church’s Parish Festival.

“We were probably down a few people because of the rain, but it rebounded nicely after the sun came out,” said Jeff Schoenbauer, one of the Top Six, organizers of the annual festival. Held on the parish grounds along New Prague’s Main Street, the festival offered a Polka Mass, activities for children, music, bingo, a country store, silent auction, a chicken dinner and many other snacks through the day long event. The festival was also held the evening of Saturday, Aug. 12, with a Polka Mass and sales at Mission Sewing, Baking & Sweet Shop, Bucket Raffle & Country Store.

The grilled chicken dinner was held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Schoenbauer said that approximately 1,200 chicken-halves were sold between take outs and sit down dinners.

“The hamster races were a hit once again in the kids’ area,” he said. The races included large inflatable balls that a person could climb into, then race around a track.
