Suicide survivor’s support will have guest speaker

Faye Bland of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) will be the guest speaker at a suicide grief support group at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Catholic Workman Center in New Prague.

Anyone who has wondered whether a family member or friend may be dealing with depression, should come to this meeting. Bland will speak about suicide and depression to the local group, which was formed two years ago in the community. Bland is the survivor of someone who committed suicide. She co-founded SAVE, an organization that speaks from a survivor’s perspective. Bland served two terms as chair of the board of directors and co-chaired four annual memorials for survivors events since 1992. She speaks to many groups about depression and suicide and has co-facilitated a support group for survivors since 1988.

Facilitators of the local support group are Sally Schmid, who lost a son to suicide, and Sister Ginny Heldorfer of St. Wenceslaus Church. The meetings are for anyone in the area who has lost a loved one to suicide. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Catholic Workman Center.

No registration is required and there is no fee. The meeting is open to the public. For questions or concerns call Schmid at 952-758-4735.
