Summer Reading Program begins June 5

“Build a Better World” is the theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program at the Montgomery Library. The program is open to young people, preschool through teen, with programs, activities, reading prizes and more.  Families are invited to join the Read-to-Me part of the program.
 
All programs are free of charge and provided by the Waseca-Le Sueur Regional Library System, the Montgomery Area Friends of the Library and the Traverse des Sioux Cooperative.  No registration is required unless specifically noted.

Monday, June 5 – REGISTRATION BEGINS at 10 a.m.
 
Tuesday, June 6 – INTERNATIONAL OWL CENTER, 1 p.m. – Learn first-hand about owls!  Ages 2-12
 
Wednesday, June 7 – SQUAD OPERATIONS, 6 p.m. – Work together to solve these fun challenges.   Ages 13-18
 
Saturday, June 10 – PROFESSOR MARVEL’S DIY MAGIC SHOW, 10:30 a.m.  -  Magic, storytelling, puppetry and lots of audience participation.  Learn how fun it is to do-it-yourself!  -  All ages
 
Monday, June 12 – CRAFT DAY, All day.  Join us for making fun projects.  Ages 2-12
 
Wednesday, June 14 – JIGGLEBOTS AND DOODLEBUGS, 4 p.m.  –  Science teacher Peter Johnson will teach you about electricity while you build your own doodlebug.  Ages 8-12
 
Tuesday, June 20 – DAVID LANDAU, 10 a.m.  -  Landau will perform his kids’ rock star songs, incorporating humor and storytelling with his music.  All ages
 
Wednesday, June 21 – GROW A BETTER WORLD, 10 a.m. – Make sprout houses, bee houses and more.  Registration required.  Ages 7-12
 
Saturday, June 24 – CARDBOARD DOLL HOUSES, 10 A.M. – Meet with a designer who will create a custom cardboard dollhouse, evil lair, or superhero hideout for your action figures or dolls.  The completed design will be displayed and presented in July.  Registration required.  Ages 3-8
 
Tuesday, June 27 – UPCYCLE!, 10 a.m.  -  Put your creativity to work making magazine roll art and recycled robots.  Registration required.  Ages 8 & up.  
 
Monday, July 3 – S’MORE OVENS, 11 a.m.  -  Learn how to make your own s’mores oven out of a pizza box, the sun, and a few other basic supplies.  Registration required. Ages 7-12
 
Saturday, July 8 – BUILD IT YOURSELF SUPER SATURDAY, 10 a.m. – noon.  -  Scavenger hunt, crafts and a treat!  Ages 5-9
 
Friday, July 14 – TEEN LATE NIGHT, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.  -  Earn entry into this afterhours event full of Claymation, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, henna painting and more by reading , attending events, and more!  Qualifiers only!  Ages 13-18
 
Tuesday, July 18 – DRAW CARTOONS WITH GARY HARBO!, 10 a.m.  -  Learn how to draw bulldozers, tractors, airplanes, trains, schools, city buildings, skyscrapers and more.  Ages 10-14
 
Thursday, July 20 – EVERETT SMITHSON BAND, 2 p.m.  -  Enjoy a musical performance followed by a harmonica lesson.  Kids get to keep the harmonicas!  All ages.  Location:  Montgomery Memorial Park
Wednesday, July 26 – MAGICAL MIA, 2 p.m. – Mia combines baffling magic tricks and Asian dance moves to enthrall audiences.  All ages
