Summer Recreation soon to be in full swing

With the completion of another school year, the New Prague Summer Recreation program will soon be in full swing. There will be a variety of activities for children, teens and even adults beginning this month and continuing well into the fall. The fun and educational events are run as a cooperative effort of the City of New Prague and New Prague Area Schools.
Swim schedule
The beginning of summer means the New Prague Pool is open. On Sunday, June 5, open swim at the pool began and will continue until August 26. Times for open swim are everyday from 1-5 p.m. On July 4, the pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m.
There will be four sessions of swimming lessons this year with seven levels for youngsters ages six to 12 or older. The first session began on Monday, June 6 and will continue through June 17. While early registration is recommended for the remaining sessions, people can register at the pool. Registration closes for each session 24 hours before the session begins, or until full. Sessions two and three will have morning and evening sessions.
New this year is Twilight Swim which is June 6-17, July 5-8 and 25-29 and August 15-19. The pool will be open from 6-9 p.m. during those dates.
The pool will be open every day except for severe or threatening weather, mechanical failure and/or temperatures below 68 degrees. Lessons will not affected by temperature.
Youth sports
There will be a variety of sports offered over the summer. Among them will be T-Ball, softball, baseball, golf and tennis. These and many of the other sports that will be offered are open to a large section of ages and grades, from those in kindergarten to others in grade seven. T-Ball, softball and baseball leagues for grades K-6 are already underway.
Other sports include the sixth grade padded football and Junior Trojan Track and Field Clinic, both in August, and Saturday morning flag football for boys and girls beginning in September.
There will be a variety of camps over the summer, including the Junior Trojan Volleyball Camp, an assortment of basketball camps and the 10th annual New Prague Youth Football Camp. There are also the Skyhawks Sports Camps, which are offered through Skyhawks Sports Academies, which will offer sessions in baseball, soft lacrosse and soccer.
Other activities
In addition to sports there are a number of other events, such as a kids’ stamping class, fun science experiments, learning about and riding horses and classes about gardening. There’s also the annual Summer Drama Camp, this year titled Explore
