By Patrick Fisher

With the completion of another school year, the New Prague Summer Recreation program will soon be in full swing. There will be a variety of activities for children, teens and even adults beginning this month and continuing well into the fall. The fun and educational events are run as a cooperative effort of the City of New Prague and New Prague Area Schools.

Swim schedule

The beginning of summer means the New Prague Pool is open. On Sunday, June 5, open swim at the pool began and will continue until August 26. Times for open swim are everyday from 1-5 p.m. On July 4, the pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

There will be four sessions of swimming lessons this year with seven levels for youngsters ages six to 12 or older. The first session began on Monday, June 6 and will continue through June 17. While early registration is recommended for the remaining sessions, people can register at the pool. Registration closes for each session 24 hours before the session begins, or until full. Sessions two and three will have morning and evening sessions.

New this year is Twilight Swim which is June 6-17, July 5-8 and 25-29 and August 15-19. The pool will be open from 6-9 p.m. during those dates.

The pool will be open every day except for severe or threatening weather, mechanical failure and/or temperatures below 68 degrees. Lessons will not affected by temperature.

Youth sports

There will be a variety of sports offered over the summer. Among them will be T-Ball, softball, baseball, golf and tennis. These and many of the other sports that will be offered are open to a large section of ages and grades, from those in kindergarten to others in grade seven.
