Sylvia F. Hughes, 80
Sylvia F. Hughes, 80, of Faribault, formerly of Montgomery, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Born July 19, 1924 in Rice County, she was a daughter of Joe and Mary (Simacek) Soukup. She attended country school near Trebon in Shieldsville Township, Rice County, and married George Hughes in Kilkenny. She lived in Kilkenny and Montgomery and was a resident of Faribault the past 20 years. Sylvia was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, working puzzles, going to casinos, quilting, crocheting, water painting and visiting her grandchildren.
She is survived by seven daughters, Betty (Alvin) Jilek of Montgomery, Delores (Richard) Peka of St. Paul, Donna (Mike) Modriefsky of New Prague, Grace Kukacka of Montgomery, Linda (Allen) Bohnsack of New Prague, Suzie (Harold) Kukacka of New Prague and Janet (Vern) Kelsey of St. Paul; three sons, Eugene Hughes of Minneapolis, Dennis Hughes of Le Center and Darryl (Sharon) Hughes of Faribault; a sister, Delores Springer of Faribault; 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sons, Kenneth and Matthew Hughes.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, with Rev. Cory Rohlfing officiating.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Pallbearers were Wayne Kelsey, David Kelsey, Paul Kelsey, Brian Kukacka, Jesse Kukacka, Jeremy Hughes and Todd Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were Tasha Seaver, Ashley Bohnsack and Crystal Kukacka.
Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
