TCU boys beat Zumbrota-Mazzeppa 59-56 on Pat Lloyd buzzer-beater

Ball games like this are not for the faint-of-heart!
     ZM 39    17  -   56
     TCU 33    26  -   59
The Tri-City United Titan boys and Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars were tied at 56 with 2.1 seconds left in the non-conference Friday night contest. The Titans were inbounding the ball from under their own basket, and with Pat Lloyd on the receiving end at half court, he turned and tossed the ball toward the Cougar bucket. Thinking he lost control of the ball, Lloyd said the next thing he knew his teammates were all over him.
Three-point ‘swisher’ and Titans win 59-56.
Titan coach Andrew Meier said they were just trying to get the ball in play and would go to overtime. “It was a great shot,” said Meier.
The Titans trailed for most of the game, but when the final horn sounded, TCU had another victory, thanks to Mr. Lloyd and his supporting cast.
Andrew Feddema was top scorer for the Titans with 13 points, followed by Lloyd at 12, Aaron Dwyer eight, and six apiece for Ryan Iverson and Connor Oak.
The Cougars had two big guns (Lucas Ziemba 22 points, Kevin Niebuhr 14), but that 1-2 punch wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced scoring by TCU.
Coach Meier is pleased with the way his team has bounced back after suffering through repeated misfortune.
“As a team, we have talked about building on success. We played well against the St. Peter Saints, knocked off Le Sueur-Henderson, and now the buzzer-beater for the win,” said the coach.
