TCU boys track takes 2nd at Belle Plaine

 

The Tri-City United boys track and field team took 2nd place at their first outdoor track meet in Belle Plaine on Thursday, April 4.
The team scores were: Belle Plaine 120, Tri-City United 115, Jordan 99.5, Mayer Lutheran 93, Delano 89.5, Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity 37.
Coach Brian Mikel said overall he thought the boys did a great job at the meet that was sunny with cold wind.
“We squeezed some points out of events that we had not gotten before, which shows me there is some improvement going on,” he said. “We still have a way to go as far as getting in better shape, but I thought this was a good start to the outdoor season. The weather was cold but the kids were enthusiastic the whole time and did a very nice job of supporting one another and cheering each other on.”
Some of the team’s highlights:   The 4x800-meter relay team of Marty McGuire, Mitch Dooley, Thomas Franek, and Max Arroyo finished 3rd in a time of 9:04.  
The 4x200 relay team of John Hanek, Kelly Nordling, Hunter Factor and Tadd Stasney finished 3rd in a time of 1:44.  
Ben Pichotta and Mic Khonert finished 7th and 8th respectively in the 1600 with times of 5:16 and 5:19.  
The 4x100 relay team of John Christian, Alex Turgeon, Michael McCrady, and Aaron Chimal finished 2nd in a time of 47.8. 
Tadd Stasney finished 2nd in the 400 with a time of 57.1 seconds.  
“Carter Rynda continues to show improvement in the hurdles by winning the 300 intermediates in a time of 47 seconds,” Mikel said. “John Christian is also showing great improvement over last year by winning the 110 hurdles in a time of 17.1 seconds. Rynda was also 5th in that race, finishing in 17.9 seconds.”
McGuire and Max Arroyo finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the 800 with times of 2:11 and 2:14. 
Jamison Beulke finished 4th in the 200 run in a time of 24.2 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team of Max Arroyo, Carter Rynda, Gabino Rodriguez, and Tadd Stasney finished 3rd in a time of 3:57.  
Mikel added that the field event people also had a pretty nice day. 
Jordan Trnka took 4th in the shotput with a toss of 40 feet, 6 inches. Scott McCabe won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches. 
Kelly Nordling took 4th with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. 
Beulke took third in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 7 inches, and close behind in 6th was McCrady with a leap of 18 feet, 11 inches.  
Nordling won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 9 inches, and Beulke was right behind him in second with a leap of 40 feet, 8.5 inches, Not far behind that was Scott McCabe with a jump of 39 feet, 1 inch placing him fifth.
 
Next Action
The track and field team is scheduled to hold its TCU Varsity Invitational on Saturday, April 13 in Montgomery, beginning at 11 a.m.
