TCU Titans earn MRC honors

 

Six members of the Tri-City United High School winter athletic squads have been recognized by the Minnesota River Conference for their performances during the past season. Honors included all-conference or honorable mention recognition.
Girls Basketball
All-Conference
Alyshia Angileno, Tri-City United, Junior, Center. Alyshia averaged 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in conference play. The junior center was honorable mention all-conference last year. She was a captain for this season’s squad. Alyshia is the daughter of Vinny and Lora Angelino.
Honorable Mention
Courtney Hentges, Tri-City United, Sophomore, Guard. She is the daughter of Brian Hentges and Sherry Glende.
Boys Basketball
All-Conference
Alex Turgeon, Tri-City United, Senior, Guard. Alex is the son of Paul and Cheryl Turgeon. He was voted a team captain for the Titans, and led the team in scoring with 9.8 points a conference game while shooting 51% from the field. He was fourth on the team in rebounding with 2.0 per game, and second in assists with 1.5. Alex plans to attend college and major in athletic training and physical therapy.
Honorable Mention
Andrew Feddema, Tri City United, Senior, Guard. Andrew is the son of Greg and Kelly Feddema.
Wrestling
All-Conference
Mason Brownlee, Tri-City United, Junior, 138 lbs. Mason is the son of Melissa and Jim Brownlee. His regular season record was 29-4, and MRC record 4-1.
Honorable Mention
Alex Burns, Tri-City United, Freshman, 285 lbs. Parents are Rene and Tammy Garza.
 
Wrestlers

The 2012-13 TCU Titan season wrestling awards were presented at the banquet held on Sunday, March 17, at TCU High School.
Most Takedowns: Mason Brownlee (138) with 98;
Most Wins: Mason Brownlee with 37;
Most Pins: Alex Burns (285) with 18;
Mr. Hustle for JV: Isak Figuroa (132) and Nicolaj Seitz (170);
Mr Hustle for Varsity: Joe Kalina (182);
Most Improved for Varsity: Levi Nelson (126) had 22 wins this year;
  All-Conference: Mason Brownlee (138), Honorable Mention All-Conference  Alex Burns (285).
Letter winners for this year were Justin Kopet 7th, Jack Muller 8th, Jonah Johnson 9th, Levi Nelson 10th, Mason Rutt 8th, Mason Brownlee 11th, Max Arroyo 10th, Josh Selly 11th, Kyle Hubert 11th, Joe Kalina 11th, Alex Burns 9th.
Other participants on the squad included Dylan Borchardt, Grant Fogerty, Nicolai Gruber, Zach Mikel, Dan Traxler, Jordan Simonette, Isak Figuroa, Logan McColloch, Harrison Weitzki, Adam Miller, Nicolaj Seitz.
Satisticians were Becca Kolander, Heidi Blaschko, Chloe Johnson and Brianna Rutt.
Mason Brownlee and Josh Selly won all-state honors for finishing in the top six in the state in their weight class.  Selly finished 2nd, Brownlee 4th.
This year’s captains were Josh Selly, Mason Brownlee and Marko Arroyo.
“Overall, I thought we had a good year in that we continued to show improvement and peaked at the right time,” commented Titan head coach Brian Mikel. “We still have a lot of work to do in the off season if we want to continue to make strides forward. We more than doubled our win total from last year. We are very young in the lower weights and at heavyweight, and those kids gained valuable experience this year.  Hopefully next year we can improve on the win total and move up in the section standings,” he added.
