Teen OK after fall into corn bin

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

There were some tense moments at the George Tupy farm, located south of New Prague on County Road 144, around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. Tupy's grandson Danny was caught in a corn bin.

With aid from the New Prague Fire Department, the 16-year-old emerged safely from the bin on the farm at 2415 Seventh Ave SE.

George said Danny and a friend, Dan Otto, 18, were helping move some corn through the auger in the bin, although George didn't know they were planning to enter the bin.

Apparently, the two were going to push some of the corn toward the auger and misjudged how deep the corn was. Danny, son of Butch Tupy and Linda Tupy, both of New Prague, was sucked into the corn.

I ran up the ladder and shut off the auger
