Tennis season comes to an end for Trojans
New Prague High School’s boys tennis team ended its season this week.
The boys faced Shakopee Friday in a makeup contest, and lost a 5-2 match to the Sabers.
Both of New Prague’s points came in doubles. Matt Gillen and Patrick Jeffrey won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, while Marty DeValk and Andy Kubes were winners at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.
Josh Meuwissen, playing at No. 4 singles, took his opponent to three sets, losing 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. James Ryan and Adam Horejsi, at No. 3 doubles, also went three sets, losing 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Losing in singles for the Trojans were Todd Krenik, Joe Busch and P.J. Smisek.
The Trojans entered two singles players (Krenik and Busch) and two doubles teams (DeValk/Kubes and Gillen/David McCollister) into sectional competition Tuesday. No results were available at press time.
