Tennis team has Tiger troubles

The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team concluded its dual meet schedule Monday, Sept. 25, losing to Farmington. The Trojans also lost two Wright County Conference matches last week, to Delano and Hutchinson, marking three losses in a row to teams called the Tigers.

New Prague will host the Wright County Conference East tournament Thursday, Sept. 28, with matches at both the high school and middle school courts beginning at 10 a.m. The Trojans will head into Section 2AA team play Tuesday, Oct. 3. Seeding for the tournament will be held over the weekend. Tuesday’s winner will play again on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Del. Tigers 6 Trojans 1 New Prague hosted Delano Tuesday, Sept. 19, and lost to the Tigers 6-1. The Trojans’ lone win was at No. 2 singles, with Jenna Larson getting the point. “Jenna has played some great tennis this year,” Coach Anna Borwege said. “She consistently fights for every point and continues to build her singles game. She has competed against some great players this year and has had a lot of success.”

Hutch Tigers 6 Trojans 1 Emily Schmitz and Kenzie Holgate got New Prague’s only win at No. 3 doubles as New Prague lost to Hutchinson in their final home dual meet, 6-1 Thursday, Sept. 21.

“They have played very well in the conference, only losing to Delano,” Borwege said. “They will play an important role in the postseason for our team. They have been very reliable all season and continue to get better and better.”
