Tennis team loses opener

The New Prague Trojan boys tennis team traveled to Albert Lea Thursday, April 7, and lost a 7-0 decision to the host Tigers in their season opener.

Just two of the seven matches went into three sets. At No. 2 singles, Todd Krenik won the first set 6-2 over Jon Hatcher, but then lost the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1. At No 4 singles, Joe Busch won his first set, 6-0, but then lost 6-1, 6-1 to Andrew Hoatvedt.

Also in singles, No. 1 Andy Kubes lost 6-3, 6-2 and No. 3 Ben Prochaska lost a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 contest.

In doubles. David McCollister and Marty DeValk lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-0. At No 2 doubles, Matt Gillen and Patrick Jeffrey lost 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 3 doubles, Sam Dresow and Brett Hoffman lost 6-0, 6-0.

The Trojans were scheduled to face Chaska Tuesday, but the meet was postponed after about an hour of play due to rain. They Trojans will travel to Waseca Thursday and then host St. Peter on Friday. On Tuesday, April 19, the team hosts Hutchinson, then they travel to Red Wing on Thursday, April 21.
