Tennis team starts season on high note

The New Prague Trojan boys tennis team started off their season on a high note with an impressive win over Waseca Tuesday, April 12. They followed that with a loss to Northfield, then split a pair of matches at home on Saturday before losing to Mound Westonka Monday, April 18.

The Trojans’ scheduled match with Litchfield on Tuesday, April 19, was postponed due to the weather. New Prague is at Mankato East on Monday, April 25, and hosts Delano Tuesday, April 26. They will play at Holy Family on Thursday, April 28.

Trojans 6, Bluejays 1 Against Waseca, the Trojans dominated the singles, with Eric Morris, Alex Masberg and Tony Larson all winning in straight sets. No. 4 singles was a much closer match, with New Prague's Logan Hallet winning a long match in a third set tiebreaker. The doubles matches were much closer, with New Prague winning two of the three.

"I am very proud of the way the guys played today, especially against a team that has usually defeated us in the past," said Coach Robb Morris. "I expected our singles to be strong and they lived up to my expectations. Eric, Alex and Tony all controlled their matches and won by playing smart, controlled tennis. Logan played his usual marathon match, pulling out a win by making fewer mistakes and showing more patience than his opponent."
