Tennis team starts section play Tuesday

The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team has a 3-10 season record after losing to Mankato East in a non-conference match Monday, Sept. 22. The Trojans also lost matches to Northfield and Orono. The Trojans most recent win came Thursday in a 7-0 sweep of Farmington.

New Prague was scheduled to play at Red Wing Tuesday, Sept. 23, and then close their regular season Thursday, Sept. 25, at home against Prior Lake.

The Section 2AA team tennis tournament gets underway Tuesday, Sept. 30. Pairings will be determined this weekend. Second round matches are Thursday, Oct. 2, with semifinals and finals on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Singles and doubles competition will start on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Raiders 6, Trojans 1

Brianna Skluzacek took the only Trojan win Tuesday, Sept. 16, as the Trojans lost a 6-1 decision to Northfield.

Skluzacek defeated Lizzie Carlson of Northfield 6-0, 6-4.

Other singles players for New Prague were Amanda Powell, Megan Palma and Kelsey Munson

In doubles, the teams of Leeanna Manthe and Sara Lang, Leah Gross and Samantha Goblirsch and Hanna Powell and Alexis Johnson lost their matches. Gross and Powell pushed their match to three sets, as did Palma.
