Tennis team toppled in 2AA

New Prague's girls tennis team took a quick exit from the Section 2AA meet last week, losing in the first round to Orono, 6-1.

Orono lost to Eden Prairie 7-0 in the second round. The Eagles and Minnetonka both came out of the northern subsection and were scheduled to compete in the Section 2AA semifinals and finals Tuesday. Eden Prairie faced Mankato East and Minnetonka took on Waseca.

At Orono, the doubles team of Anna Witty and Tanya Halloran got the only point for the Trojans. The senior duo, unbeaten since teaming up two weeks ago, won their match 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3. They are now 6-0 on the season as they prepare for the Section team meet that begins Saturday in Eden Prairie.

Losing in singles play were Megan Kubes, 6-1, 6-1; Kelsey Stupica, 6-1, 6-0, Rena Kneeland, 6-2, 6-2, and Sara Lang, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles, Briana Skluzacek and Allison Stupica lost at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, and at No. 3 doubles, the team of Evan O'Malley and Meredith Goulson lost 6-2, 6-0.

The team ends its dual meet record at 9-8 on the season.
