Tigers 5, Trojans 2

New Prague dropped its WCC opener to an alwaysstrong Hutchinson team, 5-2 Tuesday, April 18.

The Trojans first win came at No. 1 doubles, where Eric Morris and Jacob Washa won a two-set match against an experienced Hutchinson pair.

“Eric and Jacob played smart, aggressive tennis and seemed to control the play for most of the match,” said Coach Morris. “It was a good win for them as I expect Hutchinson's duo to be one of the top doubles teams in our conference.”

Tony Larson also won in a marathon match at No. 2 singles, beating his opponent in a super-tiebreaker in lieu of a third set.

Alex Masberg lost his match at No. 1 singles, but played well against one of the best singles players in the section. Logan Hallet and Carter Lowe also lost close matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Kyle Schoenbauer and Bryce Berglund played two good sets at No. 2 doubles, with effective serving and good ground strokes, but seemed to lose some accuracy and aggressiveness as the match progressed.

Josh Kassendorf and Evan Zimmer played well at No. 3 doubles, but could not find a way to string together enough points to win the match.
