Tennis team wins Stewartville Tourney, drops 2 Missota matches
New Prague ran into some tough Missota Conference competition last week, losing to Hutchinson and Northfield, but winning three non-conference matches. The team is 8-4 on the season, 0-2 in the Missota.
Trojans 4, Saints 3
The Trojans won a squeaker at St. Peter September 7, with a 4-3 decision over the Saints.
The teams split their singles matches and the first two doubles matches resulted in a 3-3 tie, leaving it up to the No. 2 doubles team of Sara Kelly and Ali Mahowald. The duo came through with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 win.
New Prague won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Megan Kubes won at the top spot with a 7-6 (6-4), 6-3 win, and Liz Gunderson won 6-2, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Teresa Higgins and Tanya Halloran won their match 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
Coach Randy Anderson said Gunderson played a very strong match against St. Peter. She played smart and really kept the pressure on her opponent.”
