Thank a firefighter
This week is National Fire Prevention Week. As is our custom, The Times salutes members of the New Prague Fire Department for their dedication and commitment to the community by recognizing each of the members for their years of service.
It takes a special sort of person to commit to be a volunteer firefighter. These people commit to weekly training sessions and countless scheduled hours away from their family, all for the purpose of being ready in case they are needed to help their friends, neighbors and even strangers in times of need. And that does not even take into account the dozens of times each month when they are called into service, sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes during a family gathering, but never at a convenient time, to respond to a fire, a car crash, a carbon monoxide alarm or some other emergency call that requires their expertise.
If you know a member of the local fire department, or any fire department, thank them for the time they put into helping to keep our community safe. It’s a good feeling to know that if the need arises, these volunteers will be there within minutes to assist in helping to protect you, your family and your property.
