Things are getting busy again at The Times

Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

It seems like it was only a short time ago when I was finishing up the spring high school sports coverage up at the State Track meet in St. Paul. Actually, it's been two months.

It's no secret that my favorite part of the job is covering high school sports. It doesn't matter if it's a Friday night football game or a springtime track meet, I enjoy watching, photographing and recording the events and sharing my accounts the successes (and defeats) of the local teams with the community. When winter sports come around, it's like Nirvana on those nights when I can cover more than one sport simply by going from one gym to another or crossing a street or parking lot. On a couple occasions I've been able to cover home wrestling, gymnastics, hockey and basketball events in one night.

With the beginning of practices on Monday, we will be starting work on our Fall Sports section that will highlight each of the eight varsity sports offered this fall - football, volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis and girls swimming and diving. We'll tell you about the three new head coaches - Jim Benick in football, Angela Andersen in volleyball and Sonia Kraft in swimming and diving, and we'll talk about the two new varsity sports - boys and girls soccer.

But that's in three weeks. This week, we present a special section highlighting the new Fire and Ambulance Facility, which will be dedicated this weekend. And next week will be our annual Back-to-School section, with stories on each of the area schools.

Things are getting busy here at The Times office, but we're always looking for news. If you have any tips, give us a call at 952-758-4435.
