Time to see the lights
At a time when everyone is cutting their spending because of the economy, it's good to see that local governments in the area are following suit. Last week, Scott County shaved a good chunk of its proposed budget increase. The New Prague Area Schools have found nearly $1 million in spending that it has eliminated from its proposed budget for next year. Across the state, cities, counties and schools are being more careful on how they are spending taxpayers' money. Government has many important functions, and each of them cost money. But by being more frugal in how they spend, governments are doing their part in this increasingly tight economy.
