Titans rout Tigers in season opener
The Tri-City United Titan football team has won all of their season openers since 2012, and the team did not disappoint this year when they beat the Belle Plaine Tigers 25-3 in Tiger territory.
The win was a payback of sorts. The Titans have beaten the Tigers every year since TCU became a district until last year when the Tigers handed TCU its first 0-6 loss. At Thursday’s conference match-up, the Titans defense controlled the game, allowing for Belle Plaine’s three points on the game.
The Titans scored in the first quarter on a one-yard touchdown by quarterback Peyton Collins, but the third and fourth quarters belonged to the Titans. In the third quarter, Tyler Sladek caught the team’s third interception from Belle Plaine. The next play found Collins faking it to Kalina on keeper and running it 79 yards for another Titan touchdown.
Just when the game was about over, Sladek took advantage of a Belle Plaine fumble, scooping it up and running it for TCU’s fourth touchdown.
