Trojan boys coast in Missota hockey opener

New Prague won its Missota Conference boys hockey opener Tuesday, Dec. 23, with a 5-1 win over Northfield.

The Trojans controlled the tempo throughout the game, peppering the Northfield goal with 47 shots on goal. Tyler Lapic got the Trojans going with an unassisted goal at 9:25 of the first period. Thomas Fadden scored his first goal of the season at 1:55, with assists from Tyler Witty and Adam Corr, then Corr got his first varsity goal at 6:26 of the period, with assists from Trevin Smith and Darren Lapic.

The Raiders made it a 3-1 game with a power play goal early in the third period. The Trojans closed the door on Northfield with a pair of power play goals of their own. Tyler Lapic scored on assists from Schyler Adams and Aaron Kes at 4:52. Then Adams beat the Raider goalie, putting the puck in off the goalie's pad at 8:52, with Kes getting the assist.

Joe Morris picked up the win in goal, stopping 18 of 19 shots to get his fourth win of the season.

The Trojans had a 5-2 going into the Little Falls Holiday Tournament. They opened the tournament with a 7-3 wom over Prior Lake in a game that will count in the Missota Conference standings. They were scheduled to face Faribault at 4 p.m. Tuesday and No. 3-ranked Little Falls at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Both those games took place after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press.

New Prague will travel to Eau Claire, WI, to take on defending Wisconsin State champion Eau Claire Memorial at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3. The Trojans play at Shakopee Tuesday, Jan. 6, and host Missota Conference-leading Holy Angels at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8.
