Trojan boys to face 2 top-10 teams this week

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team started its season with a bang Tuesday, Nov. 27, defeating Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter 9-0. But the team couldn't duplicate the effort two nights later in a 7-1 loss to Mankato West.

The Trojans, ranked No. 12 in Class A, will host No. 8-ranked Duluth Denfeld at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the New Prague Area Community Center. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Trojans travel to No. 6-ranked Orono.

Trojans 9, Bulldogs 0

New Prague dominated the contest from the opening faceoff. The Trojans kept tremendous pressure on the Bulldogs' net. The game was four minutes old before the Bulldogs were finally able to carry the puck into the Trojan zone, and that was when New Prague was killing a penalty.

Tyler Lapic got the first goal of the game for New Prague, with assists from Seth Ambroz and goaltender Collin Schoenecker. Lapic would get another power play goal, from Darren Lapic and Sam Olson, two minutes later. Ambroz scored the Trojan's third goal shorthanded at 14:46, with an assist to Tyler Lapic, and Drew Feuk scored 31 seconds later, with Schyler Adams getting the assist.

Tyler Lapic finished off his hat trick early in the second, with Darren Lapic and Ambroz getting assists. Feuk scored his second of the game with Adams and Aaron Kes assisting. Tyler Woyda scored for New Prague at 12:05, with Zach Adams and Mitch Lunder assisting, and freshman Darren Lapic got his first varsity goal less than a minute later at 12:58, assisted by fellow freshman Ambroz.

Feuk scored the only goal of the third period, when he hit a backhand shot from in front of the net while falling down. Kes assisted on the goal.

New Prague outshot the Bulldogs 54-10. Schoenecker stopped all 10 shots he faced.

I thought the kids played well against Le Sueur
