Trojan boys fall in 1AAA semifinals

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team saw their season come to a close Saturday, March 9, as they lost to Red Wing 73-66 in the Section 1AAA semifinals in New Prague. 

No. 2-seed New Prague opened with a flurry, taking an early 21-11 lead, but the Wingers started hitting from outside and trailed by just one at halftime. 

The Wingers took control early in the second half and led by as many as 13 down the stretch, then withstood a frenzied Trojan comeback in the final minute that saw New Prague cut the lead to seven points. 

Senior Luke Rynda scored 29 points for New Prague, 25 of them in the second half. Junior Paul Friendshuh added 16 points. 

New Prague ends the season with an 18-9 record. Red Wing advances to the section championship game at 6 p.m. Friday, March 15, where they will face undefeated Austin. The Packers defeated Winona 51-49.
