Trojan boys, girls run 5th at Missota meet

New Prague's boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Missota Conference Championships on the campus of St. Catherine's College in St. Paul Thursday, Oct. 12.

The varsity meets were highlighted by strong finishes from the top three runners on both squads.

In the girls meet, Amanda Wagner, Annie Connelly and Jenny Hendricks all repeated as All-Conference by finishing in 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.

In the boys race, sophomore Preston Tomlinson placed eighth, becoming just the fourth Trojan to earn all-conference honors since New Prague joined the Missota in 1980. He joins Dan Berg (1988 and '89), Brian Austin ('96 and '97) and Brandon Moen (2000). Senior Matt Perkinson and sophomore Drew Revak placed 15th and 21st, respectively, to earn honorable mention. The only other Trojans to earn honorable mention were Justin Schmitz (1992) and Curt Hoffman (1994).

Both the boys and girls placed fifth in their respective meets.

The Trojans ran in Shakopee Tuesday Oct. 17 (results in next week's paper). The teams are tuning up for the Section 2AA meet, to be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at Crown College in St. Bonafacius. The meet features Willmar's boys team, ranked first in Minnesota's large school AA division and sixth in the nation by Nike Team National. The girls meet will have four ranked teams: Marshall 4th, Chaska 11th, Prior Lake 12th and Waseca 15th. The top 10 individuals and top two teams advance to the state meet.
