Trojan boys rebound from loss with win over Holy Angels

The New Prague Trojans boys basketball team rebounded from a drubbing at the hands of Shakopee with a three-point win over Holy Angels Friday.

The Trojans (9-7, 2-4 Missota) had their game with Hutchinson on Tuesday, Feb. 6, postponed due to a water main break near the Trojan gym. They will travel to Northfield Friday, Feb. 9. The Trojans are scheduled to host Farmington Tuesday, Feb. 13, but the status of that game remains unknown. Refer to The Times' website (www.newpraguetimes.com) for schedule updates. New Prague plays at Red Wing on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Sabers 108, Trojans 56

The Sabers, ranked No. 3 in the most recent state Class AAAA poll, showed their dominance by ringing up 63 points in the first half of their 108-56 win over New Prague Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The score was relatively close in the first eight minutes of the game, but the Sabers ran away from New Prague midway through the half to take a 65-33 halftime lead.

Shakopee hit from everywhere on the floor, hit the boards and got to seemingly every loose ball in the first half in building the lead.

Tony Johnson was the only Trojan in double figures, scoring 23 points. Sam Dittberner and Adam Michel both had seven. Shakopee was led by Eric Carlson, who scored 24 points.

Trojans 69, Stars 66

New Prague put together a solid effort in defeating Holy Angels, ranked No. 9 in Class AAA, 69-66 at the Stars' gym in Richfield Friday.

The Trojans hit from the outside early, with Dittberner hitting three-three pointers in the first half on his way to a 14-point night. The Trojans led 36-28 at halftime.

Johnson led the Trojans with 24 points, while Michel had 16. Danny Geiger also scored 14 for New Prague.
