Trojan boys skate away from Hutch with win

The New Prague Trojans broke open a close game with three third period goals to defeat Hutchinson in a Missota conference boys hockey game Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The Trojans returned to action Tuesday at home against Farmington. They have two games that will be important come seeding time against a pair of Section 1A teams. They travel to Red Wing Thursday, Jan. 17, then host Rochester Lourdes Saturday, Jan. 19. Both games are at 7 p.m. New Prague hosts Prior Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Trojans 8, Tigers 4

The teams traded goals in the first period, with Treven Smith opening the scoring at 1:33, with assists to Aaron Kes and Darren Lapic. The tigers tied it less than a minute later, but Schyler Adams put his team back on top less than 30 seconds after that. Seth Ambroz and Tyler Lapic assisted.

Hutchinson tied the game midway through the period.

Tyler Lapic made it a 3-2 Trojan lead with a goal at 6:10, with Ambroz and Adams getting assists, and Ambroz scored an unassisted goal at 8:09.

Hutchinson pulled to within a goal just 40 seconds later, but Darren Lapic scored late in the period to make it a 5-3 lead going into the second intermission. Tyler Lapic and Alec Doig had assists.

Hutchinson made it a one-goal game again at 2:07 of the third period. New Prague closed out with three straight goals. Tyler Lapic got the first, from brother Darren, on a power play at 4:47. Seth Ambroz got the final two markers, at 10:19 and shorthanded at 13:20. Tyler Lapic and Adams assisted on both.

Ambroz finished with a hat trick, his second in as many games, along with two assists. Tyler Lapic had two goals and four assists, Adams had a goal and three assists, while Darren Lapic had a goal and two assists.

Collin Schoenecker was in goal for the Trojans and stopped 20 of 24 shots. New Prague outshot the tigers 29-24.
