Trojan boys track team wins at Faribault

New Prague High School’s boys track team opened its season at Faribault Tuesday, April 5, placing first of five teams at the Faribault Invitational.

New Prague had 158 points, with Faribault next at 134. Other teams were St. Paul Arlington (39), Dover-Eyota/St. Charles (36) and Southwest Christian (2)

New Prague had a strong showing from a number of athletes, with nine first place finishes.

New Prague won both throwing events, with Mike Hoemke winning the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8 inches, while Kevin Pexa won the discus with a throw of 127-11. Tony Johnson won the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, and Shane Nelson took the pole vault by clearing 11 feet. Brian O’Neill won the high jump, clearing 5-10.

Dustin Simon took first in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.64 seconds and in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.64. . The 4x200 relay team of Nate Thomas, Jeff Pumper, Josh Drummer and John Cilibrasi won in a time of 1:37.44.

Todd Reed took first in the 400, finishing in 54.85. The 4x400 relay team of Pumper, Matt Tomlinson, Derek Notch and Simon won in a time of 3:37.86.

Second place finishes for the Trojans came from Pexa (shot put), Thomas (Long jump), Pumper (triple jump), Simon (high jump), Tomlinson (110 hurdles), and Cilibrasi (200).

Placing third for New Prague were Colin O’Brien in the triple jump, finishing a 1-2-3 sweep in that event, Justin Skluzacek in the pole vault, Johnson in the high jump, for another sweep, the 4x800 relay team of Josh Larsen, David Skluzacek, Reed and Josh Lindquist, the 4x100 relay team of Darin Rezac, Thomas, Ted Berg and Nelson,

Fourth place went to Reed in the long jump, Cilibrasi in the 100, Drew Revak in the 1600, O’Neill in the 300 hurdles,

Placing fifth for the Trojans were Paul Effertz in the discus and Preston Tomlinson in the 1600,

Sixth place finishes went to Cilibrasi in the long jump, O’Neill in the 110 hurdles, Drummer in the 400, and Larsen in the 800.
