Trojan CC boys, girls win at Montgomery

The New Prague High School cross country teams competed in the Montgomery Fun Run at the Montgomery Golf Club Thursday, Sept. 27.

The Trojan boys' and girls' squads both took first place in the meet in impressive fashion. The girls took five of the top seven positions, and the boys had three of the top five.

New Prague was scheduled to host their invitational race Tuesday afternoon at the New Prague Golf club. Team scores can be found on the scoreboard, while individual results will be in next week's edition of The New Prague Times.

Girls race

New Prague eighth-grader Anna Rynda won her first varsity race Thursday, as she opened a small lead at the 2-mile mark and finished 12 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher teammate Amanda Wagner.

Rynda ran the 4-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 21.1 seconds. Wagner's time was 16:33.2. Molly Wick was next for the Trojans, finishing fifth in 16:56. Rounding out the scoring were Kelsey Wiebusch (6th, 15:59) and Jenny Hendricks (7th, 17:07.).

Nine of the top 15 runners were Trojans, including Jacelyn Peabody (10th, 17:23), Abbey Wymer (11th, 17:29), Annie Dittberner (14th, 17:49) and Molly Tikalsky (15th, 17:49).

New Prague finished 51 points ahead of second-place Jordan, which had 70. Other teams were Montgomery-Lonsdale (94), Belle Plaine (98), St. Peter (107), Le Sueur-Henderson (144) and Sibley East (incomplete).

Boys race

New Prague topped a seven-team field and won the Montgomery Fun Run for the third straight year. The Trojans scored 40 points, 16 better than second-place Le Sueur-Henderson. Belle Plaine was third (87), followed by Sibley East (95), Jordan (98), Montgomery-Lonsdale (135) and St. Peter (181).

New Prague's Preston Tomlinson took first-place honors, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 17:38. Drew Revak was third overall, in 17:45, and Neal Lambrecht was fifth in 18:03. Other scorers for the Trojans were Marty Herrmann (10th, 18:35) and John Solheid (21st, 19:27). Other varsity runners were Allan Friedges (25th, 19:43) and Matt Revak (32nd, 20:26).

Coach Nick Meyer said the Trojans' efforts were outstanding, with everyone shaving off significant time from the same race a year earlier. In the JV race, Ashton Hlavac was the top Trojan finisher in 20:27, followed by Andy Roach (21:21).
