Trojan CC teams ready for Section meet

New Prague’s boys and girls cross country team have been preparing all week for the Section 2AA meet, to be held Thursday, Oct. 27, at Crown College in St. Bonafacius.

The Trojans tuned up for the meet at the Shakopee Invitational October 18. The girls finished third, behind Prior Lake and Edina, while the boys were 14th of 17 teams.

Girls:

Glencoe-Silver Lake's Caty Delwiche was medallist, but she faced a strong challenge from New Prague’s Katelyn Meger, who was second. Meger pulled away from the top four Prior Lake girls at mile one and opened a gap that she held comfortably during the rest of the race. Meger’s time was 15 minutes, 33 seconds. Amanda Wagner was next for the Trojans, 14th overall, in 16:21, followed by Ellie Stasney (16:51), Charlie Herrmann (17:01), Natalie Rutt (17:05), Annie Connelly (17:31) and Jenny Hendricks (17:53).

In the JV race, Hallie Tietz finished in 17:57, good for 30th place, with Danielle Tikalsky three seconds back, in 18:00. Others running were Alex Perkinson, Ali Becker, Veronica Kneeland and Emily Forberg.

Prior Lake won the meet with 25 points, followed by Edina (94), New Prague (124), Northfield (142), Rosemount (143), Mound-Westonka (216), Chaska (218), Eden Prairie (220), Hutchinson (240), Shakopee (264), Apple Valley (300), Bloomington Jefferson (345), Red Wing (351), Glencoe-Silver Lake (367), Waconia (271), Farmington (400), Jordan (404) and Bloomington Kennedy (470).

The Trojans are hopeful of taking a top five finish at Thursday’s section meet, and coach Julie Berg said the team is capable of challenging for a top-two finish, which would send them to state.

We would need a tremendous effort
