Trojan doubles team loses in quarterfinals

The New Prague High School girls tennis season came to a close last week as the Trojans' top doubles team of Allison Stupica and Brianna Skluzacek lost in the quarterfinals of the Section 2AA tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Stupica and Skluzacek, seeded No. 4 in the south sub-section, lost to the top-seeded northern team of Jamie Peterson and Annie Whitley of Orono 6-0, 6-2.

Peterson and Whitley went on to win the tournament and will represent Section 2AA in the state doubles tournament at the University of Minnesota beginning Friday, along with the second-place team of Kelly Rensink and Abby Farniok of Delano.

In singles play, Aria Lambert of Minnetonka won the section title over Dana VanBruggen of Buffalo in three sets. Both advance to state.

Minnetonka won the Section 2AA team championship. They were scheduled to face Holy Angels at noon Wednesday in the first round of team competition.
